Our recent South Pacific New Zealand holiday has left us full of excitement and a keen desire for more of the same fun, friendliness and great adventure like we have just experienced.
Following our flight from Australia and arriving in Auckland, the first evening we attended our “meet and greet” dinner, placing ourselves in the most capable hands of our group leader Lynne Maharey, alias “Mother Hen”. The next morning we met our bus driver Peter, and between him and Lynne, each day they organised us and guided us to our many adventures. Everywhere we went, be it the Kari National Park and Museum, the Bay of Islands, Rotorua, Waikato districts, Lake Taupo and Tongariro National Park, we were continually treated to the history and cultural aspects relating to where we were.
The unplanned second week in the scenic Lake Taupo district gave us the opportunity to do as little or as much as we chose. Our group began the second week with a bus trip through the Tongariro National Park to Mount Ruapehu and Chateau Tongariro. While the weather was wet, cold and overcast, we were unable to see the real beauty of this National Park, however, we did witness the first snow on Mount Ruapehu this year.
Throughout the week, our group leader “Mother Hen” continually went to great extremes to organise functions and points of interest at prices far better than we could obtain ourselves. It must have been a tour nightmare for Lynne, as our daily plans sometimes changed by the minute, due to the weather. Lynne could not do enough for us and was absolutely marvellous with her organisational skills – a most worthy ambassador for the WorldMark South Pacific Group.
I must say, we were able to utilise our time efficiently and pursue our diverse interests accordingly, with vigour and daring. We sailed, fished, golfed, had hot thermal baths, cultural night and hungi, huka jetted, walked the hidden valley, visited Hobbiton (Lord Of The Rings movie site), visited thermal springs and boiling mud, visited trout, sheep and prawn farms, cruised Lake Taupo, caved, shopped and shopped and shopped. We even fitted in an “Owners Workshop” conducted by Lynne, which was a great benefit to those on the tour, especially considering we were experiencing it live. Members were able to relate different experiences and ideas with others who had encountered different situations when organising their own holidays.
Throughout the tour, the “can-do” attitude of our “Mother Hen” and our bus driver Peter, were matched by our group of “Globe Trotters” who were always willing to join in and help. Our feet never touched the ground, and it was an exciting two weeks experienced by everybody.
For those members who only read or hear about tours and just keep letting the opportunities pass by, we can't stress enough that you need to bite the bullet and go and do it. Trust us, you will not be disappointed!
